General Information
Country

Malaysia comprises Peninsular Malaysia and the states of Sabah and Sarawak in Borneo.

People and Language

Malaysia is a multi-racial, multi-cultural country with a population of abaout 26 million comprising Malays, Chinese, Indians, Ibans, Kadazans, Bidayuh and other minorities. The national language is Bahasa Malaysia but English is widely used and understood.

Time

Malaysia is 8 hours ahead of GMT and 16 Hour ahead of U.S Pacific Standard Times.

Religion

Islam is the official religion but all other religions are practised freely.

Climate

The climate is warm and humid, with plenty of sunshine. The average temperature varies from 21oC to 32oC. Light summer wears are suitable. Suits are preferable for official ceremonies and dinner.

Food

Malaysia is renowned for its varied and delightful food. Numerous eating places cater for every taste and budget.

Entry Requirements

Visitor must be in possesion of valid passport or travel document with minimum validity of six month beyond the intended visiting period. Citizens of most countries do not require visas for social or business visit. For further information, please visit or call the nearest Malysian diplomatic mission or Tourism Malaysia office.

Health Regulations
CHOLERA : No cholera vaccination is required for travelers entering Malaysia

YYELLOW FEVER : Vaccination is required for arrival from infected areas and Yellow Fever Endermic Zones except for children under one year old. If a person is unable to produce a valid certificate of vaccination against Yellow Fever, he can be isolated until his certificate becomes valid or until a period of not more than six days from the date of last possible exposure to infection has elapsed, whichever occurs first.

PETRONAS Twin Towers
KLCC

The 88 storey PETRONAS Twin Towers developed as an integral part of the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) project, houses PETRONAS new corporate headquarters. The PETRONAS Twin Towers rise like sentinels in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. It rises to 1,483ft (451.9m) in height and is all of 33ft higher than the Sears Tower.

Suria KLCC Mall

Suria KLCC Mall, a huge six-level crescent-shaped shopping mall, opened on May 8th, 1998 nestled at the foot of the world's tallest buildings. The shopping centre forms the base of the 88-storey Petronas Twin Towers located in the heart of the capital; Suria KLCC - "suria" means sunshine in Bahasa Malaysia language - has one million square feet (93,000 square metres) of space fully occupied. 653, 000 visitors were expected to pass through the shopping centre each week.

Standing a top Bukit Nanas, 94 metres above sea-level, at a majestic height of 421 metres, Menara Kuala Lumpur is the tallest telecommunication tower in Asia and the third tallest in the world. Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn. Bhd. (MKLSB) another privatization project by the Government of Malaysia has been assigned to plan, design, build, operate and manage Menara Kuala Lumpur. The towers consist of five basic buildings, namely the foundation base, the touristic building, the tower shaft, the tower head and the antenna mast.

Eye On Malaysia

The 60-metre Ferris wheel has 42 air-conditioned gondolas which can each accommodate eight people, one of it will be for the VIP while another two will be reserved for the disabled. Visitors can expect to have a good view of the Kuala Lumpur city from the wheel, including KL Tower, the Petronas Twin Towers, Genting Highlands and Istana Budaya. The 12-minute ride will cost MYR15* for adults, and MYR8* for children and concessionaires.

The unit of currency is the Malaysian Ringgit, which is indicated as MYR. In Malaysia, foreign currencies can be converted at banks and money changers.
